A Goose Bump Moment

As he stood on the water's edge with his wings stretched out, we felt his power unfold. The wild morning winds whispered impatiently, ready to take him away.

And with one final look back - almost as if to say "thank you, friends" - Bobbi, the pelican, returned home.

This young pelican was rescued in Stanley after a kind member of the public noticed that something wasn't quite right. She was correct; he was suffering from injuries after a likely collision. He was brought into our clinic by Penguin Rehab and Release, and while our X-rays fortunately showed no breaks, injuries to his ligaments required special attention and care. We needed to strap up his wing and closely monitor his progress and health.

With his larger-than-life personality, Bobbi made sure we knew he was the boss, especially when it came to food! Thus, Master Bobbi had quite the journey of rehabilitation.

His successful return home after several weeks was possible only through the collaboration of many caring individuals: a concerned member of the public, vets from Smithton to the Melbourne Zoo to Forth Valley, rescue volunteers, experienced wildlife carers, vet nurses, volunteer photographers, transport drivers, and fish suppliers.

Thank you, everyone!

So, Master Bobbi, fly free, my friend.

We hope you continue to live a happy, healthy, and free wild life.
